Miracle Margaret

Margaret with her dog

Margaret was one of our beloved Missouri KIDS and part of the Missouri KIDS family for 9 years. In May of 2019, heaven gained this sweet angel. We are so blessed to have been a part of Margaret’s incredible journey of faith, determination, and perseverance.

Margaret lived in Jefferson City and was injured in a car accident when she was only five years old. On January 2, 2009, she was pronounced dead at the scene and then revived. Her parents, doctors, and family were unsure if Margaret would make it after the complications of this accident. Margaret was paralyzed from the neck down and on a ventilator as a result of this car accident.

It was her love for and participation in cheerleading that helped her connect with Missouri KIDS. Until Missouri KIDS came into their lives, Margaret’s mom had to sleep on the floor of Margaret’s room to be able to care for her in the night. With Missouri KIDS’ assistance, they were able to get a bigger bed for her room. Margaret says, “It makes me happy to have a bigger bed because now mommy can sleep with me.” Missouri KIDS also helped with an improved shower so Margaret can bathe more easily.

Margaret was a fighter and battled several medical hardships that followed her accident, but she never gave up hope. Along her journey, she also experienced some of her biggest dreams come true. Anyone who knew Margaret knows she loved the color purple. This past holiday season she got a giant purple panda and a purple Christmas tree which she was thrilled about.

Margaret was also a huge fan of The University of Oklahoma’s gymnastics team, and her favorite gymnast was Maggie Nichols. In February 2019 Margaret had the incredible opportunity to meet Maggie Nichols and watch the OU and The University of Florida gymnastics meet. We loved seeing this dream of hers come true and the pure excitement on her face throughout this whole experience.

August 20, 2019, would have been Margaret’s 16th birthday. Her legacy and memory will live on through the Miracles for Margaret Foundation, which her mom is starting. Margaret, you will be forever in our hearts!
