Doug is from Kirkwood, Missouri and attended Kirkwood High School where he was on the wrestling team. Doug also played baseball and did judo before his accident. In 1975, at age 16, Doug became our very first MO kid after he broke his neck in a wrestling accident. This injury left Doug, a quadriplegic. Missouri KIDS has helped Doug by providing a wheelchair accessible van, a ramp for his home, a computer and a scholarship for grad school. Doug enjoys movies, reading, and painting and drawing with his mouth. He’s a contributing artist to the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists Association and has created many beautiful pieces of artwork. Doug is inspired by his wife’s love and unwavering support of him and his art. Doug also finds inspiration from his fellow recipients and loves seeing them and how they’ve adapted to their injuries.
